this is an illustration for "The Golden Key" by George MacDonald.
It is supposed to be an extremely subtle image. I wanted it to be very light and whispery, very quiet. And yeah, the key is blue, not golden (artistic license!) I also wanted it to look very modern and design-y. I was originally going for minimalistic, but then I decided to add the swirls and birds.
Oh, that is gorgeous!
The colors are so subtle, and the swirls are so captivating...
The birds are very cool looking.....
And the two figures are very adorable!

I dunno if I like the white pattern(?) on the background, I think it could do without maybe (but that's just my personal taste really) but I like the gentleness of the whole thing. Looks great.

do you think it would look better without? Just leave that space blank? I actually tried that, but it felt empty to me ( I think I have a problem with over-ornamentation) But I'm really am interested in what other people think. Thank you so much for the crit, any suggestions are helpful!
I have a problem with simplicity :b I think it's just our tastes, and since it's your piece then stick with the ornamentation over or otherwise, it still looks nice.
